Summary

Hooray! Our good friends are back!

Amos McGee, a friendly zookeeper, is very considerate and always on time。 But after a late night planning a surprise for all his friends, Amos is tired。 So tired, in fact, that he falls asleep during breakfast and misses his bus to the zoo!

Now he knows he won't have time for the surprise he planned for his friends。 Unless。。。 perhaps his friends can step in and help him out。

Ten years after the phenomenally successful, Caldecott Medal-winning classic, A Sick Day for Amos McGee, we are reunited with the gang in a brand new, heartwarming story from acclaimed author Philip C。 Stead and award-winning illustrator, Erin E。 Stead。

You know how picture book follow ups are sometimes disappointing? This is not one of those times。 What a delightful, sweet story。 Another favorite。 I can't wait to share this with my daughter。 You know how picture book follow ups are sometimes disappointing? 🎉Hooray! Amos McGee is back!🎉Returning to Amos’ world is like slipping on your softest pair of slippers and drinking a mug of hot tea。 Everyone is kind, everything is in order, and all is right with the world。 It’s been 11 years since Philip and Erin Stead blesses us with A SICK DAY FOR AMOS MCGEE, but the latest installment, AMOS MCGEE MISSES THE BUS doesn’t miss a beat。 We’re dropped right into the home with the yellow striped wallpaper, sparse wardrobe, and tea kettle。 Amos, the zookeeper gra 🎉Hooray! Amos McGee is back!🎉Returning to Amos’ world is like slipping on your softest pair of slippers and drinking a mug of hot tea。 Everyone is kind, everything is in order, and all is right with the world。 It’s been 11 years since Philip and Erin Stead blesses us with A SICK DAY FOR AMOS MCGEE, but the latest installment, AMOS MCGEE MISSES THE BUS doesn’t miss a beat。 We’re dropped right into the home with the yellow striped wallpaper, sparse wardrobe, and tea kettle。 Amos, the zookeeper grandfather we all wish we had, happily follows a tight schedule for his morning routine, so he can lovingly tend to his “good friends” at the zoo every day。 In this adventure, Amos has a special outing planned for the animals, but his excitement prevents him from sleeping the night before, causing a chain reaction that makes him (🤫spoiler alert!) miss the bus。 Fortunately, all his good friends come to the rescue in a charming way that seems only to be possible in an Amos McGee book。Themes of responsibility and being a helpful friend are found in both Amos books but are presented with a light touch that demonstrates how we all benefit when we work together。 You needn’t have read A SICK DAY to enjoy MISSES THE BUS, but if you can read two masterpieces, why wouldn’t you? Like the previous installment, the illustrations are sparse and muted and conjure a Norman Rockwell-ish milieu - perfect for the holidays! Amos’ world may seem a bit old-fashioned or anachronistic, but I think it is a welcome respite from the real world that is too often filled with vitriol instead of virtue。 I hope we won’t have to wait another 11 years to spend some more time with Amos。 。。。more

There is something so charming about Amos McGee。 He's sleepy and misses the bus AND he drops things along the walk to work。 Who can't relate with Amos McGee? The good news is, when he explains to his friends (the animals at the zoo where he works) what's happened, they are happy to help。 I like this one better than "A Sick Day for Amos McGee"! I received a copy of the audio in exchange for review- I do not have a digital or physical copy, so I didn't get to see the illustrations。The audio narration is fabulous。 They use all kinds of noises to make it feel real- alarm clock, birds chirping, etc。。。 The narrator is very clear and easy to follow。 I received a copy of the audio in exchange for review- I do not have a digital or physical copy, so I didn't get to see the illustrations。The audio narration is fabulous。 They use all kinds of noises to make it feel real- alarm clock, birds chirping, etc。。。 The narrator is very clear and easy to follow。 。。。more

Harrumph, so typical。 Everything is just as great as you’d expect, and then the very last page, where any other book would (and have many times) gone transcendent, the Steads go small。 Am I frustrated? Grudgingly admiring?

Welcome back Amos! I am not sure if I loved the illustrations more or the message of friendship and kindness。 Beautifully done!

I received an electronic ARC from MacKids through Picture Book Palooza。Glad to see Amos back。 This time he has planned an outing for his zoo friends and things start to go wrong when he has insomnia and then falls asleep at breakfast。 He arrives at the zoo too late for them to go and falls asleep again。 The animals step up as readers of the first book would expect and take care of the zoo and Amos。 Everything turns around and they all get their trip to the beach in the afternoon。 Lovely final il I received an electronic ARC from MacKids through Picture Book Palooza。Glad to see Amos back。 This time he has planned an outing for his zoo friends and things start to go wrong when he has insomnia and then falls asleep at breakfast。 He arrives at the zoo too late for them to go and falls asleep again。 The animals step up as readers of the first book would expect and take care of the zoo and Amos。 Everything turns around and they all get their trip to the beach in the afternoon。 Lovely final illustration of them all together watching the sun set。 Simple to follow text for elementary level readers; charming illustrations bring the story off the page。 Amos is endearing and the animals shine。 Discussion starter for classes talking about nurture, caring for others, accepting plan changes。 。。。more

I am so happy to see Amos again! And this story is so lovely。 Amos has a special outing planned for his zoo friends but - he is so tired! He misses his bus and is afraid his outing will have to be canceled。 Unbeknownst to Amos, everyone pitches into help - especially tortoise。 Can you guess where they are going on their outing? Erin Stead's illustrations are, as always, amazing and Philip's story heartwarming and humorous。 A big thank you to Macmillan for making a digital ARC available。 I can't I am so happy to see Amos again! An adorable picture book that follows Amos the zookeeper and his animal friends。 The pops of color in the illustrations are so sweet。 Definitely a picture book you should put on your radar。

Thank you to Macmillan and Roaring Book Press for providing a digital arc in exchange for an honest review。 The Steads do it again! Amos and his friends are ready for another adventure, but time and nature have different ideas。 Not quite as wordy as the first Amos book, the illustrations once again carry this book over the top。 A simple, short, and sweet story and a delight to revisit Amos's world。 Thank you to Macmillan and Roaring Book Press for providing a digital arc in exchange for an honest review。 The Steads do it again!
